Reassessing Assessment
How we teach has dramatically changed over the years. Whether it’s the internet replacing Encyclopedias or Chromebooks taking the place of spiral notebooks, the access students have to process and share information has dramatically improved over the years. Unfortunately, the same often can’t be said for how we as teachers assess student learning. Too often, we fall back on the same old methods, like multiple choice, fill in the blanks, and true or false questions, that we ourselves were raised on. In this video, verteran teacher Mike Roberts identifies five alternative assessment modes that can be done within any classroom. After presenting each concept, he then explains the good, better, and best elements of each idea. Your classroom has continually evolved over time, and now it’s time for your assessment methods to catch up!
