The regional Network/IT Specialist is part of the Central Utah Educational Services (CUES) network and security support team.  This person acts as essential technical support for the district technology directors who rely on their professional expertise and direction.  Interactive support in all technical aspects of network and security operation evolve to this position. This person assists with designing, managing, operating, and supporting all network and security services in the CUES region. Working directly with the team lead and Utah Education and Telehealth Network (UETN) network and security support staff, the Network/IT Specialist assures that regional network and security services are updated, reliable, secure, and capable of handling continual growth demands.

  • Work experience in network, wireless, and security architecture
  • Experience with/willing to learn HP Switching Architecture, Ekahau Wireless Survey Tools, and Fortinet Wireless and Security Architecture.
  • Experience with/willing to learn database development and management (MySQL and Filemaker)
  • Experience with/willing to learn scripting and web development (bash, PHP, javascript, CSS, etc.)
  • Experience with/willing to learn Linux/macOS Command Line
  • Willingness to learn the many systems being used by CUES, their stakeholders, and customers

Major Responsibilities:

  • Learn all IT functions at CUES as a dual thread to ensure optimal redundancy
  • Provide network and security support and assistance to CUES stakeholders and customers
  • Will actively monitor firewall logs/reports and manage security tools and services for each district to help mitigate potential threats
  • Will conduct regular audits on district firewalls to ensure that best practices are used in all firewall configurations.
  • Conduct risk and vulnerability assessments on organizational infrastructure
  • Design, implementation, and integration of network and security solutions
  • Respond and assist with remediation of security incidents.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation for network and security alerts and incidents.
  • Develop, recommend, and maintain security and data privacy policies, plans, and procedures.  This includes training district personnel to align staff with the requirements of policies and procedures.
  • Perform other essential duties as assigned.
